Why should I use Easy Digital Downloads?

Easy Digital Downloads is a great choice for selling video courses online using WordPress because of three main reasons: it is extensible, customizable, and, as you may have guessed, easy.  You can get the plugin for free to start and there are also many different premium add-ons available that you can use to customize your store to fit your business needs.

Ready to get started? You can get Easy Digital Downloads for free by clicking here.

Install the Easy Digital Downloads WordPress plugin

The installation steps are simple. You can download the .zip file from the link above, or, you can search for the plugin right from the WordPress admin dashboard. Once it is installed, you’ll want to activate the plugin in the WordPress dashboard by visiting the Plugins page and clicking on the Activate link under Easy Digital Downloads.

Now, in your WordPress menu, you’ll see a new menu item called Downloads.

Go to Downloads > Settings and configure the options to fit your preferences and business needs.

Once your store is configured, you are ready to create your first product. It’s important to understand the differences between a product and a course. With Easy Digital Downloads, your customers will purchase a product from your store, and as a result of their purchase, they will be enrolled in your online video course. The video course and the product are two separate items, but they integrate with each other very easily.

You can create your products by visiting the Downloads menu item and clicking on Add New

You can name the product anything you’d like. Maybe you want to call the it same name as your course, for example, Learn to Draw. Or perhaps you’re selling other downloadable content along with the video course as part of a package. This can always be changed later, so choose a name for now and let’s move on.

Once your product is set up and saved, you can easily insert purchase buttons for your product on your WordPress site via the Insert Download button next the Add Media button while editing any page in the WordPress dashboard.

For more detailed setup instructions, feel free to visit the official Easy Digital Downloads Documentation page.

Why should I use the Lunchbox WordPress video course plugin?

Now it’s time to talk about how to create your online course and give customers that purchase your product access to your videos. To run the online video course on WordPress, we’ll be using the Lunchbox WordPress plugin. It’s a sleek and powerful plugin that shows your videos in a Netflix-like player and keeps track of your student progress, along with a ton of other features.

At $199 a year, Lunchbox is a bit of an investment. However, if you can use this combination to sell your courses to your students, it is definitely a worthwhile choice that will provide an excellent return. You can also try Lunchbox with a free trial for 14 days. Check it out here. Once you have the Lunchbox WordPress plugin, it’s time to move along.

Installing Lunchbox

You can install Lunchbox just like any other WordPress plugin by adding it to your WordPress plugins page in the admin dashboard. Then, click the activate link, just like you did with the Easy Digital Downloads plugin earlier in this article.

Now, in your WordPress menu, you’ll see a new menu item called Courses. You are ready to create your first course!

You can create your course by visiting the Courses menu item and clicking on New Course.

Linking your Lunchbox Course to your product

Now that you have both your product created and your course created, we need to tell WordPress to enroll any customers that purchase your product into the course you just made.

We can do that by navigating to the Downloads menu item and choosing All Downloads.

Now, find the product that you created earlier and click on its name in order to edit it.

Once you are on the edit screen for your product, you’ll see that there is a new box in the sidebar that allows you to select the course that purchasers of that product should be enrolled in.

Simply check the box next to each course that you would like to enroll your purchasers in. When a customer purchases that download, they will automatically be enrolled in the associated courses.
